Markaday — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 13 August 2026

Your challenges, your day marks and your notes stay on your phone. Markaday has no account to create and no server of ours holds your days. We cannot read what you write.

The one exception is entirely your choice: if you turn on Google Drive backup, a copy of your days is stored in your own Google Drive. Nothing else in the app asks you to sign in to anything, ever.

Markaday is made by Parrot Digital. This policy explains what the app does with your information. It is short because the app does very little.

What stays on your device

Everything you create in Markaday is stored in a database on your phone:

  • your challenges, their names, dates and settings
  • which days you marked, and how each missed day was resolved
  • any notes you write on a day
  • your reminder time, theme and other preferences

None of this is sent to us, and Markaday creates no account for you, so there is nothing here tied to your name. (The optional Drive backup below is the only part of the app that involves signing in to anything.)

Backups

If Android Backup is switched on for your device, Android copies Markaday's data to your own Google Drive, the same way it does for other apps. This is handled by Android and your Google account. We have no access to it. You can turn it off in your device settings.

Markaday also lets you export a backup file yourself from Settings → Your data. That file goes wherever you choose to save or send it. Once it leaves the app it is yours to look after.

Google Drive backup (optional, and off unless you turn it on)

Markaday Pro includes an optional backup to your own Google Drive. It is off until you tap Connect, and no other part of the app will ever ask you to sign in. If you never connect it, nothing in this section applies to you.

When you do connect it:

  • You sign in with a Google account you choose, and Markaday asks for permission to use one hidden folder that belongs to it. It cannot see, open or change anything else in your Drive — not your documents, not your photos.
  • A copy of your Markaday data is stored in that folder. This copy includes your challenge names and the notes you have written, because a backup that left them out would not be much of a backup.
  • The copy sits in your Google account, under your control. We have no server involved and no way to read it.
  • Markaday sees your email address so it can show you which account is connected. It is not stored anywhere else and is not sent to us.

You can disconnect at any time in Settings → Your data. Disconnecting stops future backups and never removes anything from your phone. To delete the copy already in Drive, remove Markaday's access from your Google account's permissions page, which deletes its hidden folder along with it.

What we do collect

To fix crashes and understand which parts of the app people use, Markaday sends anonymous diagnostic and usage information to Google's Firebase service:

  • crash reports and technical error details
  • basic events such as "a challenge was created", "a day was marked", "the recap screen was opened", along with numbers like a challenge's length

These events are a fixed, published list. The content of your notes and the names of your challenges are never included, and there is no identifier that points back to you personally.

Firebase processes this on our behalf. Their handling of it is described at firebase.google.com/support/privacy.

Purchases

Markaday Pro is a single one-time purchase handled entirely by Google Play. We never see or store your payment details. The app only asks Google Play whether this device has bought Pro.

Notifications

If you turn on a daily reminder, it is scheduled on your device by Android. Nothing about it is sent anywhere.

Children

Markaday is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect anything from them.

Deleting your data

Uninstalling Markaday removes everything it stored on your phone. If you would like to keep a copy first, export a backup from Settings → Your data.

If you used Google Drive backup, the copy in your Drive is not removed by uninstalling. Remove Markaday from your Google account's permissions page and its hidden folder is deleted with it.

We hold nothing on a server of ours, so there is nothing for us to delete on your behalf.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it.
